How to Remove Wax Melts

A few weeks ago, we discussed our hand poured wax melts and how great they can be as an alternative or pairing to our soy candles.  We described what they are and how to use them safely and efficiently.  The small wax cubes really are an amazing way to fill your home with sweet, floral, fresh, or any of our fragrances that you and your family love!

So, now that you know how to use the soy tarts, you’ve probably got one warming in the melter right now!  This is great!  Your house smells wonderful and you have that fuzzy feeling you get when you smell your favorite scent.

However, you start thinking that maybe you want to swap your Clean Cotton melts for some Apple Pickin’.  You can’t mix the cubes because that would make the Apple Pickin’ fragrance weaker, so how do you remove the used wax from the burner?

Here are the top 2 tried, tested, and mess-free Antique Candle Works wax melt removal hacks:

1. Ribbon

After your wax cubes are completely melted, shut off your warmer and carefully place one end of a ribbon into the wax.

Allow the wax to cool completely and harden.  Once the wax is solid, simply lift it out using the ribbon.  If the solid disc breaks apart while lifting out the wax, simply pick out the broken off pieces.  Super easy and mess-free!

 2. Cotton Balls

Turn on your tart burner and melt down the wax.

Once the wax is completely liquefied, add 1 or 2 cotton balls to the melting dish (generally, 1 for every wax cube).

The cotton balls should easily soak up most of the wax.  Once the wax is absorbed, throw out the cotton balls, wipe out the dish, and replace with a new fragrance!

While these hacks are great methods for clean wax melt removal, sometimes they may leave behind a little bit of wax still in the dish.  If there are left over bits of wax, gently scrape them out with paper towel.

However, if you have built-on wax or residue, simply use a bit of rubbing alcohol and a clean cotton ball to wipe out the dish.  If that doesn’t work, you may have to break out a magic eraser.

I hope these hacks have been helpful!  Our soy wax melts fill any home with amazing fragrances just as well as any of our candles, and our goal is to provide you with the best possible experience using them.
